What is "mammaplasty"?

Mammaplasty or breast plastic surgery is an operation that is performed either for cosmetic or medical purposes.

From an aesthetic point of view, breast augmentation helps women feel better in their body, more attractive and beautiful. And from a therapeutic point of view, it is possible to perform breast plastic surgery after mastectomy, which is the removal of breast cancer.

What kinds of breast implants are available?

Types of breast implants include:

• Saline breast implants: saline prostheses have a round shape. They are filled with salt water and do not harm the body even if they penetrate into the tissues. Salt implants are tougher than silicone and become completely flat when ruptured.
• Silicone breast implants: the outer shell and inside the implants are filled with silicone. The texture of these prostheses is similar to breast tissue. Silicone implants are soft to the touch and absolutely natural in appearance. These prostheses are less likely to rupture, and if they do, no silicone gel will get into the chest.

Breast implants can be classified based on “profile” types:

• It is important to note that implants are only for breast enlargement and mammoplasty does not cause breast lift. In some cases, this operation helps to lift the breasts by about 2 cm.

What is included in the postoperative care following mammaplasty?

It is recommended:

• to quit smoking for up to two weeks after surgery.
• not to drink alcohol for up to two weeks after surgery.
• to take a shower 2 days after the operation.
• to wear a medical bra for up to two weeks after surgery.
• not to lift heavy things.
• not to drive a car for up to 2 weeks.
• to take care of your bandages for a week. Then, remove them after a week and use tetracycline ointment.
• to take Anaheal 500 tablets 2 times a day after meals (morning and night). The use of vitamin C or natural pineapple can also be beneficial.
• not to consume salty foods and products.
• to take your medications on time as prescribed.

The sutures are absorbent and do not need to be removed.
